The Association of Technical Universities and Polytechnics in Africa (ATUPA), in its focus on generating policy ideas to strengthen skills development and sustainable training systems across the continent, has called upon the Ethiopian Federal Democratic Republic (EFDR) Technical and Vocational Training Institute to join as a member.

Dr (Hc). Jahou Samba Faal, the Secretary General of ATUPA, held discussions with the Institute's Vice Director for Training and Capacity Building, Haftom G/Egzher (R/Professor). During the meeting, Dr. Jahou highlighted the absence of Ethiopia, the "capital of Africa," from this Pan-African association. She emphasized that Ethiopia's membership would create opportunities to implement transformative activities in the vocational training sector. Dr. Jahou also underscored the importance of a stable and coordinated training system across Africa, noting that institutions like EFDR play a crucial role in achieving this vision.

Haftom G/Egzher (R/Professor) explained that the institute, as a member of the World Skills Association, is committed to producing qualified professionals for the international market and training citizens from East African countries. He stated that joining ATUPA would significantly enhance the institute's ability to fulfill its mission. He further mentioned that detailed discussions will be conducted to finalize the decision regarding membership.

Established in Accra, Ghana, in 1997, ATUPA is a Pan-African institution currently headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya.
